Unicaja Malaga made the first off-season addition to its roster with the signing Stefan Markovic, the Eurocup's career assists king, to a two-year deal on Friday. Markovic (1.91 meters, 26 years old) spent the last season with Banvit Bandirma in Turkey, helping that team take first place in the Turkish League regular season and later reach the playoff semifinals.
Markovic averaged 5 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists for Banvit in the Turkish League,. He had 1.9 points, 3.4 assist and 1.0 steals in 13 Eurocup games, as well. This will be the Turkish Airlines Euroleague debut for Markovic, who has been competing for the previous eight seasons in the Eurocup, where he is the overall assists leader of the competition with 363 career dishes. He also ranks third in both steals (135) and Eurocup games played (92). Markovic now returns to Spain, where he previously spent two seasons with Valencia Basket Club. He started his professional career with Atlas Novi Beograd, before moving to Hemofarm Vrsac. He also played with Benetton Treviso in Italy. Markovic is a member of the Serbian national team, with whom he won a silver medal at EuroBasket 2009.
