POST-GAME
Tomas Pacesas, Lietuvos Rytas head coach:
“Congratulations to Khimki on this win but at the same time, I want to congratulate my team because we fought and showed character. Even when we were trailing we didn’t yield and it’s very essential. We know why we lost; the reason is very simple: when you make 22 turnovers, it is impossible to win the game, especially if you play against such a strong opponent as Khimki. At the same time, we did not score many open shots. Along with turnovers it deprived us of the possibility to win, though until the very last moment until Pullen’s triple we stayed in the game, and it was unclear how it could have resolved. The reasons are clear, and we will try to make fewer mistakes, which will give us better chances to stay in the game and win in such a strong group”.
Arturas Gudaitis, Lietuvos Rytas center:
“Both teams had ups and downs and huge scoring runs; first one team got ahead and then another one caught it up. We showed character but at the same time made too many mistakes. It allowed our opponent to gain many offensive boards. They were the two main reasons for a defeat. You can’t play all forty minutes at one level. Tonight Khimki also had bad times”.
Dusko Ivanovic, BC Khimki head coach:
“It was very tough and difficult game. It’s a start of the EuroCup and Lietuvos Rytas is a very strong team that plays really hard and tough. It was a very important win for us. We made many mistakes tonight but every moment we had patience to play defense and offense to win the game. That mental preparation was very important for this success. Pullen showed a really good game but he didn’t start well. He was excited with a lot of desire to win the game quickly. In the second half he did very well what we need from him. He will play better every game”.
Jacob Pullen, BC Khimki guard:
“It was all right. I could have played better. I missed some easy shots. But it was my first game for Khimki and hopefully I will get into a rhythm the next few games. I’m comfortable about creating a mismatch and get my shot which happened in the end. It was good tonight. It’s early in the season and the teams just try to find the rhythm. We have to figure out how to become more consistent and focused”.
