The injury, on the banks of the Volga River was so serious, that immediately after the unfortunate incident the player and the team’s physician, Andrey Ulyanov, flew back to Moscow, where Gorenc underwent immediate surgery.
Dr. Andrey ULYANOV said:
— Boris had been stretching for the ball, and fell to the court with a stroke of bad luck, landing on his bent leg, without crashing into anyone. It was simply an unfortunate accident. It was all the more unlucky as there were only a few minutes left of training practice. The diagnostic found the injury to the anterior cruciate ligament and both lateral and medial meniscus, as well as a contusion to the tibia.
— That same night, Boris Gorenc was hospitalized and the next day operated. His surgeon has said the operation was a success. The player will have to recuperate over six weeks, and only then will be able to possibly train with the rest of the team.
— The day after surgery, Boris was able to get out of bed, and the following day he went home. He is undergoing intensive rehabilitation and recovery. For now, all is normal. He has a warrior’s spirit, and could even run faster than a locomotive. Sometimes it is hard for him to stop his impulses, he has is eager to get back to the court as soon as possible. He himself wants to speed things up.
