Scariolo is one of the most successful coaches in Europe. He began his career at the highest levels in his native Italy, where he became one of the youngest coaches ever to win the national league with Scavolini Pesaro in 1990. The next season, he went to the Final Four with Scavolini at age 29. He moved to Spain in 1997 to coach Tau Ceramica, winning that club's first King's Cup, too. His next stop was Real Madrid, where he spent three seasons and won his first Spanish League crown, which made him the only coach ever to win both the Spanish and Italian titles. With Unicaja, he guided the club to its first Final Four, first Spanish League title and first Spanish King's Cup. The move to Khimki reunites him with Jorge Garbajosa. The two spent two seasons together early in Garbajosa's career at Tau and later two more together at Unicaja, winning the Spanish League and King's Cup crowns. He also coached Maciej Lampe at Real Madrid early in the center’s career.
