Carlos Delfino — №1021 july 2008
Monday afternoon in the office of agency “You first” in Madrid took place the press-conference, concerning the signature of contract between the Olympic Champion Argentinean player Carlos Delfino and BC Khimki.
Delfino is now on the roster of the Argentinean National Team and will participate at the Olympics Games that will take place in August in Beijing. In Spain his team will play some test-matches. But Carlos got around to taking part in press-conference, in which media showed a big interest. It is not surprising. The signature of this contract has become one of the most important operation in Europe. More than 20 journalists from Arhentina, Spain, USA came to the press-conference to see the historical moment.
The presidium was consisted of Carlos Delfino, his agents, the BC Khimki General director Victor Bychkov and the BC Khimki international department chief Elena Nazarova. Delfino’s relatives also were there, they took kindly the decision of Carlos.
— We are happy by this transfer. We know how BC Khimki is strong and about it’s exalted aims. We are sure that Carlos can help it and will happy in Moscow Region club.
— I should remind that we signed a 3 years contract — said Victor Bychkov. – We are glad that all formalities we left behind. And Carlos is the full member of our team. I think that this signature is a big event for Russian basketball.
Victor Bychkov presented Carlos Delfino the jersey of BC Khimki with number 10. After it Delfino started to answer the questions.
Why did you choose BC Khimki?
— I can repeat once more: I am excited about joining Khimki. This club has a very ambitious project and they are on their way to becoming one of the strongest teams in Europe. I’m going to give it all I have. I want to win.
By this reason you decided to leave NBA?
— It’s quite true. And the contract which BC Khimki proposed to me and the exalted aims of this club kept me from refusal.
Why did you choose №10?
— I play with this number in National team. I know that №10 in BC Khimki was Gianmarco Pozzecco, who was a fan’s favorite. I hope I will take the fancy of them too.
Did you ask advice from Ruben Wolkowyski, who played in BC Khimki?
— I called Ruben. He conveyed greetings to Khimki club and fans. He spoke warmly about Moscow Region club. He said that BC Khimki is a big family. My further questions were needless.
Will you learn Russian language?
— I don’t know yet. I am always is opened to something new. First, I hope to improve my English.
Are you afraid to go to Russia?
— No. You can ask each player who played in Russia. Comments are enthusiastic. And what about myths about frost….in Toronto can also be cold.
-I am sure Carlos will have not problems with acclimatization.-said Victor Bychkov. – Our friendly team will help him. And now Carlos will play In Olympic Games, it’s a big honor for each player. We wish Carlos and his team good luck. And we will waiting for him in September.
