Unicaja completes frontcourt with Gist

Unicaja Malaga completed its frontcourt Tuesday by signing athletic power forward James Gist, who arrives from Fenerbahce Ulker. Gist (2.06 meters, 25 years old) averaged 7.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.9 blocks in 16 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games as a starter last season.
Those numbers increased to 9.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in the Turkish League. Unicaja will be his third Euroleague team in as many seasons after debuting in the competition in 2010-11 with Partizan Belgrade. Over that time, he has been a fixture in the highlight reels due to his high flying slam dunks, alley-oops and blocked shots. Gist played college basketball at the University of Maryland from 2004 to 2008, and during the summer of that year he crossed the pond to Italy, where he played with Biella. He spent the following season in Russia with Lokomotiv Kuban before joining Partizan. Gist in Unicaja’s third addition in as many days on the heels of the signings of center Kosta Perovic and guard Zoran Dragic.
