Galatasaray Medical Park landed one of Turkey’s best playmakers with the signing of Engin Atsur to a two-year contract. Atsur (1.93 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Fenerbahce Ulker. Atsur suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon while playing for the Turkish national team before the 2010 FIBA World Championships, which caused him to miss the entire 2010-11 season.
Last year he recorded 3.7 points and 1.7 assists in a reserve role in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague and 5.6 points and 1.7 assists in the Turkish League. He enjoyed his breakout season with Besiktas in the 2009-10 season, when Atsur averaged 15.3 points, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals in the Eurocup and 13.3 points and 4.4 assists in the Turkish League.
Atsur took an unusual route to European stardom by playing four seasons of college basketball at North Carolina St. University. He returned to Europe in 2007 for Benetton Treviso and spent the following season with Efes Pilsen before signing for Besiktas. He previously played for the Turkish national team at the 2006 World Championships in Japan and at EuroBasket in both 2007 and 2009.
