Hello again, Euroleague fans! This is Marcus Williams, checking in from Malaga after a two-week road trip since we played back-to-back road games in the Spanish League and in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague. We feel pretty confident right now. We had two road wins in Germany and two home games coming up. We think that if we play hard, with confidence and to the best of our abilities, we have a good chance to advance to the Playoffs. We were down at one point and after the win against CSKA Moscow, we lost to Anadolu Efes and had a tough game against Alba Berlin but won it. After the win in Bamberg we feel we can compete for a Playoffs spot.
I hit the game-winning shot against Alba. It was a bit nerve-wrecking! Like I said, it was a tough game, we had ups and downs after a good start. They took the lead and we had to battle back in the second half. I got the ball with about four seconds left and had an open look. I took it and it went in — it was great for us!
It was great to play in Bamberg, too. They have a great crowd, a great atmosphere. Those guys play hard and never give up. We started out great during the opening three quarters and had a double-digit lead. They fought back in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough and we came back with a win.
Luka Zoric has been playing great for us lately, especially in the game in Bamberg. He has been doing everything that we expect him to do. We don't expect him to give us less than that. To me, he is one of the best big guys in the league. He is athletic, can score, plays defense and is very active. When I first saw him, it was a month after the training camp started. When he came in, I really didn't know anything about him. In the first couple of practices I thought: 'wow, this guy is really athletic, really active' and as the season progressed I was able to see what he can do. He's been great for us this season!
More news regarding Earl Calloway — he forgot his iPad on an airplane and had to get back and get it. Luckily, he got it back. I don't know why this stuff always happens to him but people have started to notice, too. Every time that somebody leaves anything behind, we pretend it's his. For instance, if Kruno's phone is on the table and somebody will go 'Earl, your phone'. He leaves everything behind!
The two upcoming games against Zalgiris and Panathinaikos are big, exciting ones. We play at home and have the chance to make some noise. It can put us in a great position. We are excited and will prepare hard to play Zalgiris on Friday — and we will see where we go from there. I feel like the organization is excited, too. People on the club, coaches, players... everybody is ready for the game on Friday!
Zalgiris plays hard and is a good defensive team. They have good scoring weapons like Marko Popovic. I am sure Coach will have a good game plan, like he does in every game, it is up to us to execute it well. I have faced Popovic this season and when I was in Russia and he was playing for Unics. He is undersized but a great scorer. He is pretty quick — not fast, but quick. He is active and efficient — a guy like that is always a dangerous weapon.
I couldn't wait to get back home — I love it here! We have been in and out of town in the last couple of days, so being here for a few more weeks is great for me, personally, and I am sure it is for all players, to be with their friends and families. The weather is great, right on the beach and there is nothing else I can say. This is the best place I have been, I love it! As far as being in Europe, I don't think it can get any better than this. There are a lot of good restaurants that I go to in Malaga and Marbella. There are a lot of rich people and nice cars in Marbella — it's nice!
We have four more games after playing these two at home. Winning them would give us a lot of confidence, it would give us the push that we need. These are two of our bigger Euroleague games this season, so I wish our fans will come out and support us. We will play hard and try to get these wins for them! I definitely think that these two games can help us a lot to get our fans back in here!
