Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul bolstered its backcourt by signing veteran swingman Manuchar Markoishvili until the end of the 2013-14 season, the club announced Tuesday. Markoishvili (1.97 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Mapooro Cantu, where he averaged 12.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 10 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games this season.
He helped Cantu survive the Euroleague Qualifying Round by averaging 11 points in three wins. In his three seasons with Cantu, Markoishvili reached the Italian League finals in 2010-11, the Euroleague Top 16 in 2011-12 and the Italian Cup title game in each of the last two seasons. Markoishvili has also played for BC Kyiv in Ukraine, Mitteldeutscher in Germany, Union Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia, Benetton Treviso in Italy and Basco Batumi in his native Georgia. He played in the 2003 Euroleague title game with Benetton at age 16. Markoishvili won the Slovenian double — league and cup titles — in 2005 and 2006, lifted the FIBA Europe Cup trophy with Mitteldeutscher in 2004, helped Benetton to win the Italian League in 2002 and clinched Georgian League titles with Batumi in 2001 and 2002. He is also a regular member of the Georgian national team.
