Maccabi Electra adds size with Tyus

Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv bolstered its froncourt by inking power forward Alex Tyus to a two-year deal, the club announced Monday. Maccabi keeps an option to extend the agreement until the end of the 2015-16 season.
Tyus (2.05 meters, 25 years old) arrives from Pallacanestro Cantu, where he averaged 8.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and a block in 10 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. He helped Cantu to make it to the Italian League semifinals and win the Italian Supercup. Tyus had a solid college career at the University of Florida, averaging 9.1 points and 6.2 rebounds in 36 NCAA games in the 2010-11 season, in which his team reach the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals. His first professional team was Maccabi Ashdod, in which Tyus averaged 12.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 30 Israeli League games in 2011-12. He had 16 points and 9 rebounds in ths Israeli League final, which Ashdod lost against Maccabi. Tyus is also a member of the Israeli national team.
