The German champion Brose Baskets Bamberg signed power forward Damir Markota to a 3-month contract. With the addition of Markota (2.08 meters, 27 years old), Bamberg found a replacement for Novica Velickovic, a former Euroleague Rising Star Trophy winner, who will spend some weeks away from practices while working on individual conditioning.
Markota spent last season with Beskitas JK Istanbul where he averaged 8.7 points and team-high 5.1 rebounds in 24 Euroleague games. Power forward played twice against Bamberg, too, posting 11 points and 6 rebounds in 71-86 win at Bamberg, and 13 points plus 7 rebounds during 83-72 victory in Istanbul.
"We have experienced Damir playing twice against us last season, where he has shown a lot", Bamberg's coach Chris Fleming said. "The best characteristics of his game are hard work on rebounds, and his defensive quality, while at the same time he has a great understanding of the game offensively."
Markota is coming off a EuroBasket 2013 performance with Croatia, where he helped his National Team win the fourth place with 5.0 points and 5.5 rebounds.
Markota grew up with Cibona Zagreb, before playing with Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA and Tulsa 66ers of NBDL. After returning to Europe, Markota played with Spartak St. Petersburg, Zalgiris Kaunas, Menorca, Bilbao Bakset, Olimpija Ljubljana and KK Zagreb.
