Khimki Moscow Region defeated Enisey Krasnoyarsk on the road, 95-85. The visitors pulled away late in the contest, picking up a 10-point lead in the 4th quarter thanks to an offensive outburst from Petteri Koponen. The home team tried to cut into the deficit, but Moscow Region always had an answer, securing the hard-fought victory.
The Siberians drop to 11th with the defeat, while Khimki picks up its 22th win of the season. Locked into 4th place, Khimki could finish 3rd depending on results for Lokomotiv-Kuban and Zenit, who each have two games remaining.
Intro
The home team jumped out to an early lead. David Kennedy and Tony Taylor shut down Alexey Shved and Tyrese Rice, limiting Khimki's options on offense. Dusko Ivanovic was forced to go to his bench with Petteri Koponen and Egor Vyaltsev knocking down some big shots. Shved also got going late in the first half, scoring seven points, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to put the visitors on top by 10, 48-38.
Kennedy dominated the third period. The American big man was terrific at both ends of the floor, especially when driving to the basket. He scored 10 points during a five-and-a-half minute stretch, pulling Krasnoyarsk within a point, 57-56.
Turning Point
Khimki took over early in the 4th quarter, sparked by Petteri Koponen. The Finnish guard first scored on a layup, then knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to make it 79-69. Both teams were aggressive on offense down the stretch, but Enisey never got closer than eight in the final minutes, allowing Khimki to pick up a big win.
Setback
Khimki center James Augustine was forced to leave the game late in the first half. The American big man landed awkwardly while battling for a rebound, an unfortunate setback for Moscow Region entering the postseason.
Star Player
Petteri Koponen. He was Khimki's number one option on offense (18 points), bringing Khimki back in the 1st quarter and helping his team pull away down the stretch.
