Khimki Blitzes Zenit On The Road

Khimki Moscow Region defeated Zenit St. Petersburg on the road, 103-72. The visitors delivered a knockout blow in the 1st quarter, outscoring Zenit by 21 to take complete control of the contest. Despite playing at home, St. Petersburg never threatened, dropping to 5th in the standings with the loss.
Recap
Zenit had an opportunity to pick up a game on Khimki in the standings, but came out flat and quickly fell behind by double digits. Zenit looked out of sorts against an aggressive Moscow Region defense and gave up too many open looks from the perimeter.
During an early timeout, Zenit coach Vasily Karasev criticized his team for letting Khimki "do whatever it wanted." By the end of the opening period, the visitors enjoyed a 32-11 lead, shooting 8-10 from inside the arc and 4-4 from beyond it.
Khimki added to the lead in the 2nd quarter. Tyler Honeycutt dominated on the glass and the visitors had no trouble getting out on fast breaks. At halftime, Moscow Region's advantage had ballooned to 30.
Both teams struggled to score early in the 3rd quarter, before Khimki put together a 5-0 run to make it a 35-point game. Zenit never got closer than 29 points the rest of the way, giving the visitors their 16th win of the season and firm control of 3rd place.
Star Player
Tyler Honeycutt. Zenit couldn't match the Khimki forward's aggressivenes and athleticism. He threw down several impressive dunks and finished with a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds).
