FC Bayern Munich announced it reached agreement to extend contract with center Maik Zirbes, who signed a deal for the next season, with an option for another year, club announced on Sunday.
Zirbes (2.07 meters, 27 years old) joined Bayern midway through the last season on-loan from Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, and he posted 7.7 points and 3 rebounds playing for Bayern in the 7DAYS EuroCup quarterfinals series loss to the eventual champ Unicaja Malaga. He had 8.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in German League action, while also posted 8.1 points and 3 rebounds over 15 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games for Maccabi. A native of Germany, Zirbes made his EuroLeague and EuroCup debuts with Brose Bamberg in 2012 and 2013, respectively. He also played with Trier and Saar-Pfalz in Germany, spent two seasons in Serbia with Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade, which he helped to consecutive Adriatic League and Serbian League titles, as well as a EuroLeague playoff appearance. He previously won a German League title with Bamberg in 2013.
