Emus edged Russia at the U19 World Championship in Latvia in the start of the 1/8 Finals stage of Group E. The Australian U19 selection overcame the European team 85:78.
The tournaments structure saw the top three teams from Pool A and Pool B form a six-team Pool E, where both teams were currently placed.
The fixture for round two takes a cross-over format, which means that teams from Pool A will not face each other again. Instead they will line-up against each of the top three teams from Pool B.
Russia started well and grabbed 21-18 after the first 10 minutes of the game. Although Australia won the second frame 21-20, Russia enjoyed 2-point halftime advantage. Moreover the European team increased to 3 points after 22-21 in the third period, but could not win. Emus however needed 27-17 to take 3-1 record on top of Group E.
