Three teams remain undefeated through three rounds of Eurocup action. Round 3 saw a lot of balanced action, with three overtime games — one between a pair of former competition champs went to double overtime! — and a quarters of the games were decided by 5 points or less. Nearly half of Round 3's games went to the visiting teams.
Group A: Group A: In a clash of the undefeated teams, FoxTown Cantu led from start to finish, building a huge lead in the first quarter en route to a comfortable 83-58 win over Telenet Ostend. Michael Jenkins paced the winners with 22 points on 6-of-8 three-pointers. Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck registered its first win in Group A by downing Cibona Zagreb 77-87 in the Croatian capital. Anthony King paced the winners with 19 points on 9-of-11 two-point shots. Le Mans Sarthe Basket defeated CEZ Basketball Nymburk 81-74 behind 30 points from an unstoppable DaShaun Wood. Le Mans went up to 2-1 in Group A while Nymburk dropped to 2-1.
Group B: Bilbao Basket remained undefeated after beating last-place Belgacom Spirou Charleroi 98-71. The hosts used a huge run at the end of the third and start of the fourth quarter, as Axel Hervelle scored 17 points, leading six Bilbao scorers in double figures. Dinamo Barco di Sardegna Sassari nailed 17 triples and dished out 29 assist to down Elan Chalon sur Saone 102-87. Travis Diener dished out 13 assists, while Drake Diener netted 23 points, Marques Green nailed 7 of 9 triples for 21 points, and Caleb Green also scored 21. EWE Baskets Oldenburg edged Cedevita Zagren 92-90 in overtime, as free throws by Robin Smeulders and Pickey Paulding allowed the hosts to go up to 2-1.
Group C: In action on Tuesday, Ratiopharm Ulm improved to 2-1 with 68-78 win at Paris Levallois. The visitors got near-equal contribution from 10 players, as Philipp Schwethelm scored 12 points. Jawad Williams had 22 points plus 8 rebounds for the hosts which drop to 0-3. On Wednesday, Asvel Villeurbanne defeated Cimberio Varese 78-85 to move up to 2-1 and join a four-way tie for first place. Edwin Jackson led Asvel with 15 points. Union Olimpija Ljubljana also improved to 2-1 by downing previously undefeated Valencia Basket 67-64 in the Slovenian capital. Alex Stepheson paced the winners with 18 points on 8-of-10 two-point shots and 11 rebounds.
Group D: BCM Gravelines Dunkerque turned back visiting Belfius Mons Hainaut 75-52 and stay unbeaten in Group D on Tuesday. Gravelines improved to 3-0 atop the group, while Mons dropped to 0-3. Juby Johnson hit 5 three-pointers to lead the winners with 19 points. Behind 20 points from Quinton Hosley, Virtus Rome easily handled Alba Berlin 85-71, as both teams now hold 2-1 record in a share of second place. In a high-scoring showdown, Telekom Baskets Bonn registered its first win in Group D by rallying to beat CAI Zaragoza 108-104 at home. Both teams now tie for fourth place, each with a 1-2 record. Benas Veikalas paced the winners with 19 points.
Group E: A clash between former Eurocup champions met all expectations as a thriller. In the end, Khimki Moscow Region outlasted Hapoel Migdal Jerusalem 80-87 after two overtimes. Derwin Kitchen completed a late Hapoel comeback with 2 free throws to force overtime. The hosts missed a chance to win it at the buzzer in the first OT. Then Sergey Monia took over and carried Khimki to victory in the third. Monia finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Petteri Koponen had 20 points and 6 assists for the winners. Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir downed Lukoil Academic Sofia 84-69 to stay undefeated. Bobby Dixon shined with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals and Leo Lyons added 16 with 9 rebounds and 4 assists for karsiyaka. Road warrior CSU Asesoft Ploiesti topped Igokea Aleksandrovac 77-84 for its second road win. Dragan Zekovic had an amazing performance with 25 points with 5 for 6 from beyond the arc, while Gerald Lee amassed 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals for Ploiesti.
Group F: In a battle of Eurocup newcomers, Khimik Yuzhne continued its dream start to the competition with 75-88 win against winless Alba Fehervar. The visitors built a big lead in the first quarter and never looked back, as Paul Delaney led the way with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, while Jamal Shuler added 16 points in victory. Nizhny Novgorod routed Buducnost Voli Podgorica 83-62 after taking a double-digit lead in the first quarter and holding the visitors to just 6 points in the third. Semen Antonov scored 20 points off the bench for the winners, while Dijon Thompson posted a double-double in his debut. Nizhny’s reserves outscored the starters 46-37. Aykon TED Ankara Kolejliler escaped with a thrilling 75-77 decision over PAOK Thessaloniki after an outstanding come back in the final quarter. The visitors reeled off 15 straight points to take the lead. Vladimir Golubovic paced the winners with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, plus 3 steals and 2 blocks.
Group G: Unics improved to 3-0 with 72-81 win over winless Kalev Cramo Tallinn on Tuesday. Unics led from start to finish, leading by as many as 19 points in the first quarter. The hosts cut the deficit to only 3 points in the second half, but Unics held on as Andrew Goudelock netted 20 points, making 4 of 5 three-pointers, and Ian Vougioukas scored 15 in victory. On Wednesday, Banvit BK Bandirma routed MZT Skopje 85-61 improve to 2-1, thus securing a share of second place. Scoring ace Sammy Mejia led the winners with 19 points on 6-of-8 two-point shooting plus 8 rebounds. History was made when Maccabi Haifa Bazan overpowered VEF Riga 73-94. Donta Smith recorded 18 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists for the fifth triple-double in Eurocup history to lead Haifa.
Group H: Radnicki Kragujevac picked up its second win in a row, beating Spartak St. Petersburg 97-80, grabbing a share of first place. Sava Lesic paced the winners with 23 points and 9 rebounds, Mouphtaou Yarou collected 20 points plus 10 rebounds, while Dusan Mladjan also netted 20, shooting 6 of 9 three-pointers, for Radnicki. Besiktas Integral Forex edged Bisons Loimaa 60-61 in a game that went down to the wire. The hosts dominated the fourth quarter to roar back from a double-digit deficit, but missed a pair of threes in the final 30 seconds that could have changed the game. Chris Lofton paced Besiktas with 20 points. Neptunas Klaipeda rallied past Panionios Athens 86-91. Neptunas used a 0-11 fourth-quarter run to road back and held on down the stretch thanks to strong free throw shooting in the closing minutes. Valdas Vasylius led the winners with 23 points and Vytautas Sarakauskas added a double-double.
