The Eurocup Clubs Meeting, which took place in Barcelona on Wednesday, set the stage for an exciting 2014-15 season and discussed a future that stands to make the competition both more stable and more important.
In first order of business, the clubs were informed about the list of teams that was approved by the ECA Shareholders Meeting previously in the day. The list provides for a reduction in the Eurocup Regular Season from 48 to 36 teams. The resulting competition system change means that six groups of six teams each will send their best four finishers forward to the Last 32 phase. The regular season is due to run from October 15 to December 17.
As in 2013-14, the Last 32 will be enhanced by the presence of eight teams that do not qualify for the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16. The Last 32 will take place between January 7 and February 11, 2015.
Home-and-away two-game series will continue to determine the march to a champion through the eighthfinals, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, which begin March 4 and end on April 30. As always, the Eurocup champion wins a place in the following season's Turkish Airlines Euroleague Regular Season.
In addition, the clubs were informed that the Eurocup competition system will be stable in coming years, as also approved by the ECA Shareholders Meeting.
