Unics Kazan, which reached Turkish Airlines Euroleague Regular season through the qualifying rounds, decided Wednesday to make a change on the bench by releasing Argyris Pedoulakis and bringing back Evgeny Pashutin as head coach.
Pedoulakis had arrived last summer and led Unics to the Euroleague through the qualifying rounds, but so far in the regular season, the team is 1-4 and tied with Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari for last place in Group A. In the VTB United Leage, Unics stands in fifth place with a 4-2 record. His replacement will be a long-time friend of the club, Evgeny Pashutin, 45, who is also the head coach of the Russian national team. Pashutin already led Unics to a Eurocup title in 2011. That earned the club the right to play for the first time in the Euroleague the following season, in which Pashutin guided the team all the way to the playoffs. After that, Pashutin coached Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar and repeated the process, winning the Eurocup in 2013 and reaching the Top 16 the following season.
