Anadolu Efes strengthened its frontcourt by signing center Vladimir Stimac to a one-year deal, with an option for another, the club announced Tuesday.
Stimac (2.10 meters, 29 years old) arrives from Besiktas Istanbul, where he averaged 13.9 points and a competition-best 9.6 rebounds in 40 Turkish League games last season, helping his team reach the finals. He started his career with Beovuk Belgrade of his native Serbia. Stimac has also played for Zalgiris Kaunas of Lithuania, Valmiera and Ventspils of Latvia, Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade of Serbia, CEZ Basketball Nymburk of the Czech Republic, Olin Edirne and Banvit Bandirma of Turkey, FC Bayern Munich of Germany, as well as for Unicaja Malaga and Estudiantes of Spain. He helped Zvezda win the Adriatic League and the Serbian League titles in 2016, and also led Nymburk to the Czech double — league and cup titles — in 2011. Stimac is also a regular member of the Serbian national team. He helped Serbia win respective silver medals at the 2014 FIBA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games. Stimac was also successful with Serbia in youth categories, helping it win respective gold medals at the 2005 U18 European Championships and the 2007 U20 European Championships. He has averaged 7.1 points and 4.8 rebounds in 60 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague career games with Zalgiris, Unicaja, Bayern and Zvezda. Stimac ranks 11th all-time in rebounds per 40 minutes (12.3) in the EuroLeague.
