While speaking to “Radio Marca”, Juan Carlos Navarro announced that he will retire from the national team after Eurobasket 2017.
Navarro and Pau Gasol are the leaders of the Spanish “Golden boys”. Their run started back in 1988 at the Eurobasket U18 when they won gold. They defeated the USA next year in the FIBA World Cup U19 winning also the gold.
He made his debut with the senior national team in the 2000 Syndey Olympics. Since then he appeared in every major tournament with the exception of Eurobasket 2015 and Eurobasket 2013 due to injuries, winning the FIBA World Cup in 2006. He has also won two gold Eurobasket medals (2009, 2011), two silver Olympic medals (2008, 2012), one bronze Olympic medal (2016), two silver Eurobasket medals (2003, 2007) and one Eurobasket bronze (2001).
The big question after his announcement is if he will retire together with his longtime friend Pau Gasol.
