A Turkish Airlines EuroLeague powerhouse has retained of its long-time captain as Real Madrid and power forward Felipe Reyes agreed on Wednesday to a new two-year contract until the end of the 2018-19 season.
Reyes (2.04 meters, 37 years old) is set to start his 13th season with the Madrid. He averaged 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in 31 EuroLeague games last season, when Madrid reached the Final Four for the fifth time in seven years, all with Reyes in uniform. As team captain, Reyes lifted the EuroLeague trophy when Madrid won the EuroLeague title in 2015, when he was chosen to the All-EuroLeague First Team. He also won the EuroCup with Madrid in 2007 and reached two more EuroLeague championship games, in 2013 and 2014. Reyes ranks second all-time among EuroLeague players in rebounds (1,583), trailing only former teammate Ioannis Bourousis (1,603). Reyes is also fifth all-time in scoring (2,612), fourth in performance index rating (3,259), third in fouls drawn (1,127) and second in game played (287).

Reyes is one of the biggest winners in world basketball, both with his clubs and his national team. He started his career with cross-town rivals Estudiantes, joining Madrid in 2004. Reyes has won five Spanish League titles, lifted the Spanish Copa del Rey five times, and claimed the Intercontinental Cup crown in 2015. He also took another Copa del Rey title with Estudiantes in 2000. Reyes has won 10 medals with the Spanish national team, including golds at the FIBA World Cup title in 2006 and the EuroBasket trophy three times: in 2009, 2011 and 2015. He earned three Olympic medals – silver in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, bronze in Rio 2016 – and three more in EuroBasket action – silver in 2003 and 2007, bronze in 2001. He also led Spain to its first World U19 Championships title in 1999 and won the European U18 Championships gold medal in 1998.
