A remarkable streak of the sort that might take a long time to break came to an end last week when Alexey Shved of Khimki Moscow Region was held to 9 points in a 77-105 home loss to Anadolu Efes Istanbul.
Until then, Shved had scored 10 points or more in 78 consecutive Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games, the absolute record by more than double any other player this century except one: the late Alphonso Ford, for whom the competition's Top Scorer Trophy is named.
Ford's streak of 54 games remains remarkable in itself because it covers every EuroLeague game he played with three different clubs between 2000 and 2003, a year before his untimely death at age 32 of leukemia.
Shved's streak began in Round 1 of the 2017-18 EuroLeague Regular Season, which he would finish 34 games later as the Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy winner with 21.8 points per game.
The following season, Shved was even more remarkable, with 23.3 points per game, but played just 14 games due to injury, rendering him ineligible for the top scorer award.
Last season, Shved ranked second with 21.4 points per game, behind only Shane Larkin's 22.2 for Efes when the season was cut short with six regular season games remaining. No award for top scorer was given last season.
This season, Shved is at 18.0 points per game, ranking him third behind Jordan Loyd of Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade (19.2) and Mike James of CSKA Moscow (18.6).
Now that Shved has to start a new one, the longest current streak of scoring 10 points or more is 25 games belongs to Nikola Mirotic of FC Barcelona, who did so in the last 19 games last season and the first six he has played in this one. James ranks third all-time with a streak of 35 games and seventh with another that lasted 30, but the latter one was ended in Round 5.
Shved also owns the longest streak of scoring 15 or more points, 32 games in a row. He did that during the entire 30-game regular season in 2017-18 and Game 1 of Khimki's subsequent playoff series against CSKA, which held Shved to 12 points in Game 2. Shved went on to end that series by setting the single-game record in the modern playoffs with 36 points in Game 4.
