VTB United League draw of the regular championship and qualifying tournament-2011/12 was held in Riga on the waterfront of the Daugava River at the Old Town. The event which has gathered a considerable quantity of visitors and journalists from the different countries, was possible on all hundred-per-cent.
Culmination of the presentation was draw and qualifying tournament, in which six teams will play in two groups.
Group A: «Enisey» (Russia), «Honka» (Finland), «Anvil» (Poland).
Group B: «Krasnye Krylya» (Russia), «Siauliai» (Lithuania), «Dnipro» (Ukraine).
Qualifying tournament will be held from September 27 to October 2, 2011 in the Lithuanian city Siauliai. At first the pretenders will play in two groups in one round. Then four strongest teams (two teams from each group) will play in the final round where they will play in one round– taking into account the results of matches at the first stage.
Two best clubs of qualifying tournament will get into the main draw of the competition.
As well as in the previous season the draw of VTB United League was held according to specific principles, which didn't allow to appear in one group: to finalists of VTB United League 2010/11 (CSKA and «Khimki»), to the participants of the Euroleague 2011/12 who have got to one group at the first group stage. (UNICS — «Asseco Prokom», («Zalgiris» — CSKA) and to two representatives from Ukraine. In each group should appear equal quantity (four) the Russian clubs. Also it has been declared that if «Enisey» from Krasnoyarsk will get to the basic grid of tournament it shouldn't get to one group with the Kazakhstan «Astana».
Draw results, no less than procedure in which honor guests of the event have been involved, the well-known basketball players and coaches, haven't left indifferent anybody …

Group A: BC Khimki (Russia), «Zalgiris» (Lithuania), UNICS (Russia), «Budivelnik» (Ukraine), «Nizhny Novgorod» (Russia), «Astana» (Kazakhstan), «Kalev» (Estonia), VEF (Latvia) and 1th team from qualification.
Group B: CSKA (Russia), «Lietuvos Rytas» (Lithuania), «Asseco Prokom» (Poland), «Minsk-2006» (Belarus), «Nymburk» (Czech Republic), «Lokomotiv-Kuban» (Russia), «Spartak» (Russia), «Azovmash», «Budivelnyk» (Ukraine) and 2nd team from qualification.
The regular season of VTB United League will begin on October 10, 2011 and end on March16, 2012. The winners of two groups will go directly to the «Final four», and the remaining two tickets to a decisive round will be played in the playoffs. The teams, which will take 3-rd and 4-th places in groups, will meet in 1/8 final, after that two winners will play in 1/4 final with the teams, which will take the 2nd place. Playoff will be held for two victories.
