Ivan Lazarev (205-C-91) debuted for Triumph as his new team played against the defending champions CSKA. No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked CSKA Moscow (15-8) beat bottom-ranked Triumph Lyubertsy (4-18) in Lubertsy 87-83 on Wednesday.
The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Triumph Lyubertsy won third quarter 26-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Triumph Lyubertsy 39-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. CSKA Moscow looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for international center Andrey Vorontsevich (204-87) who led the winners and scored 29 points and 9 rebounds. The former international swingman Viktor Khryapa (204-82) accounted for 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. The former international guard Egor Vyaltsev (192-85) came up with 21 points and 4 assists and American guard Tywain McKee (188-86, college: Coppin St.) added 23 points and 4 steals respectively for Triumph Lyubertsy in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Spartak SP. Triumph Lyubertsy lost tenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. CSKA Moscow will meet at home league's second-placed Lokomotiv in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Triumph Lyubertsy will play against Khimky (#5) in Khimki and hope to secure a win.
Ivan Lazarev is the Russian U16 National Team member in -07, Russian U18 National Team -09, Russian U23 League Finalist -09. At the European Championships U18 in Metz (France) after 5 games he averaged 8.2ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.2bpg, FGP: 50.0%, FT: 75.0%. Last year he was a member of the Russian U20 National Team -10.
