Russia earned the first win at the European Basketball Tour tournament in Tel-Aviv. They overcame Poland to take 1-0 record. Alexey Shved scored 22 points to pace the effort. Poland fell at 0-2 record after the loss. Russia will take on Israel tonight.
Poland got to a better start. They snatched a 25:19 lead after ten minutes. Russia adjusted the tempo in the second quarter. They erased the deficit and cut the deficit to just two points at halftime 35:37. Russia pulled their noses in front in the third term. They earned a narrow 58:56 lead with one quarter to go. They maintained the lead throughout close final period eking out a narrow victory at the end. Viktor Khryapa (204-F/G-82) accounted for 12 points, while Sergey Monya (203-F-83) added 10 points for the winners. Dardan Berisha (192-G-88, agency: Global Sports Plaza) responded with 21 points for Poland. Szymon Szewczyk (209-C-82) netted 12 points in the loss.
