One Team participants get Eurocup Finals experience
Participants from the One Team Khimki Moscow Region programme earned a special Eurocup Finals experience moments before tip-off of Game 2.
Two dozen schoolchildren from Lyceum Nº 7 and secondary school Nº 27 joined Khimki and its opponent, Herbalife Gran Canaria Las Palmas, for the teams' presentation prior to the game. The children high-fived the players as each player was introduced on the court. A short message was read by the game announcer before the game began.
One Team Khimki is a unique project that addresses the education needs of typical local school children by utilizing the power of basketball to illustrate life lessons, self-esteem and social skills, among other values. Khimki runs its One Team sessions in two secondary schools: Lyceum Nº 7, where the club has been running the sessions for a fifth-grade class for the second school year in a row, and the secondary school Nº 27, where the club has been running weekly sessions for sixth graders for the past few months. The programme sessions are conducted during physical education lessons to give the children an easily accessible, time-efficient opportunity to experience the innovative educational practices of One Team and learn the positive moral messages that the programme is built to communicate.
One Team, Euroleague Basketball's acclaimed Corporate Social Responsibility programme, is supported by Turkish Airlines and features 31 clubs in 14 countries across Europe. Together with its partners, One Team develops and promotes educational programmes that use the power of basketball to integrate communities. Current One Team projects involve working with youths suffering from substance abuse, physical or intellectual disabilities, gender inequality and those economically disadvantaged. Since One Team’s founding in 2012, its programs have directly reached 5,000 participants and can account for 5,000 more indirect participants.
